A theater stage lit by blue spotlights

One of the most memorable evenings you can have in the Riviera Maya is only a few minutes’ drive from Casa Chanty. JOYÀ, Cirque du Soleil’s first resident show in Mexico, is performed in a purpose-built theater at Vidanta Riviera Maya, hidden in the jungle just outside Playa del Carmen and Cancún. For guests staying in Playa del Secreto, it is one of the easiest big nights out on the coast.

What is JOYÀ?

JOYÀ is a theatrical show that blends acrobatics, live music and storytelling with a gourmet dinner, designed to engage all five senses. The story follows a teenage girl and her alchemist grandfather through a fantastical jungle, drawing on the culture and heritage of Mexico and inspired by the monarch butterfly’s migration. The theater is intimate, with roughly 600 seats, so you are never far from the action.

It is best known for offering a dinner before the show, which is unusual for a Cirque du Soleil production. The performance itself lasts roughly 70 to 80 minutes, depending on the source and the ticket package.

Ticket options

  • Show only: table or high-stool seating, without dinner.
  • Dinner and show: a three-course dinner served about an hour before the performance, with champagne included.
  • VIP dinner and show: the best seats, unlimited champagne and priority access to the theater.

Packages, prices and performance days vary by season, so check the official JOYÀ ticket page before you plan. The show is popular, so book ahead.

Timing and getting there

  • If you have dinner, arrive about 90 minutes before the show. For show-only tickets, arrive about 40 minutes early.
  • Punctuality matters. Late arrivals are seated when the ushers decide it won’t disturb the show.
  • From Casa Chanty it is a short drive. Arrange a taxi or private driver for the return trip, and see our taxi and transfer guide.
  • Transportation can also be bought with your tickets on the official site.

What about the Nickelodeon resort nearby?

Families often ask about it, so here is how it fits in. Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Riviera Maya is a separate all-inclusive resort on the same stretch of Highway 307 near Vidanta, with character experiences, a themed water park and a kids’ club for its guests. It is not part of Vidanta or the JOYÀ theater. If you would like to visit it without staying there, check with the resort directly about what is open to non-guests.

Tips for a great JOYÀ night

  • Tell the staff about allergies or dietary needs in advance if you book dinner.
  • If you travel with children, check the official age guidance before booking.
  • Make it a full day: snorkel the Puerto Morelos reef in the morning, rest in the afternoon, then head out for dinner and the show.
